School Annual Education Report (AER) Cover Letter
Lincoln Elementary School
April 4, 2016
Dear Parents and Community Members:
We are pleased to present you with the Annual Education Report (AER) which provides key information on the 2014-2015 educational progress for the Hudson Area Schools district. The AER addresses the complex reporting information required by federal and state laws. The school’s report contains information about student assessment, accountability and teacher quality. If you have any questions about the AER, please contact Mrs. Godfrey at 517-448-8912 ext. 248 for assistance.
The AER is available for you to review electronically by visiting the following web site www.hudson.k12.mi.us or you may review a copy in the principal’s office at your child’s school.
Lincoln’s enrollment fluctuates and is currently working through several years of having over 25% of its population moving in or out each year. In response to having the opportunity of an ever changing student body, teachers are working hard to make the most of each moment in class. In addition to the highly qualified status of the Lincoln staff, new technologies with computer labs, mobile labs, SMARTBOARDS and other classroom technologies have given assistance to diversifying classroom lessons to allow for just right instruction as students strive towards mastery of their required state standards. During the 2013-2014 school year teachers began to research the practices developed when becoming “A Leader in Me School”. After a year of researching and using some of the sound principles developed in the program Lincoln teachers applied for and received a Covey Foundation grant to become trained as “A Leader in Me School.” The staff is excited about this adventure as we work towards helping each student work towards their full potential as a leader.
State law requires that we also report additional information.
The LISD PREP Academy provides educational programs for teen parents from Lenawee County. During the student's instructional program, childcare support is provided.
At Lincoln we are focusing on the leadership potential in each student. Through this lens, students will discover and practice a set of leadership and life skills. Incorporating leadership practices within our school’s environment and curriculum will help our students become even more ready to succeed in the 21st Century, with critical skills and characteristics such as: trustworthiness, strong work ethic, motivation, problem-solving skills, goal setting, effective interpersonal skills, a sense of teamwork, academic achievement and valuing diversity in a global market. By developing the whole child, we will foster a school climate that promotes greatness! We are looking forward to investigating this work much deeper as we have been chosen to be ‘A Leader in Me School” through the Franklin Covey foundation.
Teachers continue to increase their abilities to teach each student at their learning level. Monthly literacy meetings will continue to develop Lincoln teacher’s knowledge and opportunities in helping our students become the leaders of tomorrow through the solid foundation laid down by the dedicated teachers at Lincoln.
Even though changes are continually taking place, take time to feel and enjoy many of the comforts at Lincoln that will be staying in place. The dedication of teachers and excited faces of students as they go through their daily schedules, along with those brick and mortar attributes that make Lincoln special, including the Lincoln Café, Lincoln library and technology lab, and the climbing wall in the gymnasium along with many other favorites will be in their typical spots as we create learning opportunities for students in our classrooms.
With the many activities the teachers and Parent Group will be putting together for students you can’t help but get caught up in the excitement and the anticipation of what will unfold as the school year progresses.
I look forward to seeing each of you again as we experience the school year together. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about our little gem of a school in western Lenawee County! (517) 448-8912 ex. 222
